Can We Really Talk? Faculty of Color, Emotional Labor, and Self-Care w/ Dr. Valerie Dudley In-Person
Emotional labor involved in teaching is not a new concept. As faculty, our social identities often inform what and how we teach. However, for BIPOC faculty, women, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, their social identities bear a disproportionate level of emotional labor–serving as role models and mentors for students who share their identity. In this session we will talk about how we can provide community and individual and institutional support for those who are at greater risk for increased emotional labor, particularly as they teach courses related to diversity (e.g., race/racism, LGBTQIA+ and gender studies, globalism, Indigenous and cultural studies).
