CAT Fall 2024 Services

Below, you will find CAT services and resources available to support your pedagogical and educational technology needs this semester, both in person and virtually. You can reach us also at cat@temple.edu or at 215-204-8761.

Visit us in person at the following locations:

  • Main Campus CAT: TECH Center (Bell Building), Suite 112
    • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
  • Health Science Campus CAT: Student/Faculty Technology Center, Room 200
    • Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00pm 
  • Ambler Campus CAT Educational Technology Lab: Ambler Learning Center, Room 301
    • Hours: Monday through Thursday: 8:30am-10:00pm; Friday: 8:30am-5:00pm
    • Note: This space is for faculty use only. There are no CAT consultants on site.

NOTE: The Center for the Advancement of Teaching In-Person Office and Lab will operate remotely Monday through Wednesday, November 25-27. CAT Virtual Office and Labs will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28 & 29 in observance of Thanksgiving. In-person and Virtual Operations will resume on Monday, December 2 at 8:30 AM. Educational Technology Labs

  • In-Person EdTech Labs: Visit our Educational Technology Lab at our Main Campus or HSC locations for walk-in assistance or independent access to the lab’s computers, printers and scanners. Our EdTech Specialists are here to assist with educational technology tools, including Canvas, Zoom, and VoiceThread. Our Ambler location has work spaces available for faculty to use at their convenience.

  • The Virtual Drop-in EdTech lab is available online via Zoom. The virtual lab is staffed by our Educational Technology Specialists during our regular business hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

 

Consultation Services

Temple University’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching invites all Temple educators to take advantage of our individualized consultation services. Our expert staff provides support and advice on any aspect of teaching, as well as training on the effective use of educational technology. Note that instructional consultations with CAT staff are non-evaluative and are kept strictly confidential.

Book a virtual or in-person consultation. In-person consultations are available on the Health Sciences Campus and on Main Campus.

Teaching Consultations

Meet in-person or virtually with a faculty developer to discuss any aspect of instruction, including:

  • Implementing effective strategies for teaching in any format including face-to-face, hybrid, and online
  • Designing or redesigning a course or syllabus
  • Designing assessments that measure what students are learning 
  • Developing efficient and effective grading practices
  • Generating creative and innovative ways to engage your students
  • Ensuring students leave your classroom with tools for lifelong learning
  • Responding to specific teaching challenges

Educational Technology Consultations

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching’s Educational Technology team offers in-person and virtual individualized consultation services on how to use educational technology and applications to enhance your instruction and promote student engagement, including:

  • Identifying appropriate educational technology tools for your teaching context
  • Maximizing the use of Canvas for face-to-face, online, and blended classes
  • Creating interactive and engaging learning environments using technology
  • Obtaining anonymous feedback using Classroom Response Systems (clickers & mobile devices)
  • Recording and posting lectures and voice feedback using lecture capture, video and presentation software
  • Facilitating online classes and office hours using web conferencing tools
  • Preventing plagiarism and encouraging good writing skills with plagiarism detection tools

 

Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) Consultations (research focused on teaching and learning)

Schedule a virtual consultation with CAT's Postdoctoral Fellow to discuss any topic related to research focused on teaching and learning, including:

  • What is SoTL and how to get started
  • Finding a SoTL project in the work you are already doing
  • How to design a study focused on teaching and learning
  • Guidance for submitting your research protocol to the IRB
  • Locating places to publish and/or present SoTL research
  • Requesting a SoTL custom workshop in your department

Custom Workshop Request Form

The CAT collaborates with people within departments, colleges and programs to develop workshops tailored for your unique needs. To request a custom workshop, please complete this form. A CAT staff member will reach out to you within three business days to initiate the planning process.

 

Classroom Observation Request Form
