Book Group: Creating Wicked Students: Designing Courses for a Complex World by Paul Handstedt (Hosted Online via Zoom) In-Person

In this compelling book, Hanstedt posits that we want to develop students’ ability to solve ‘wicked problems,’ that is, the kind of complex and evolving challenges they may face once they have left college, and that, once solved, can make meaningful change in the world. To do that, we must think about ways of teaching that support students’ attainment of the wicked competencies needed to approach sticky, stubborn challenges, such as asking good questions, working through uncertainty, collaborating effectively with colleagues, and persisting in the face of failure. Join a discussion of this thought-provoking book, and walk away with ideas to help you start designing learning experiences that create wicked students in your classrooms.
