Book Group: The Heart of Higher Education by Parker J. Palmer and Arthur Zajonc (Hosted online via Zoom) In-Person

The Heart of Higher Education centers on the promise and challenges of integrative education, an approach to postsecondary learning that strives to cross disciplinary and institutional boundaries to serve students in a more holistic way. This book group will explore how institutions of higher education can integrate curricular and co-curricular experiences to produce significant learning and will delve into the role higher education should play in not just the intellectual development of our students, but their personal and civic development. We will tackle questions such as: What is the goal of higher education? Is it the role of higher education to foster a sense of meaning and purpose among our students? How do we make sense of the complex interplay of spirituality and rational inquiry in academia? We will also brainstorm concrete ways to implement principles of integrative education in our classrooms, departments or programs.

This 3-part book group will meet bi-weekly online via Zoom on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, March 9, 3:00-4:30 PM
  • Wednesday, March 23, 3:00-4:30 PM
  • Wednesday, April 6, 3:00-4:30 PM

Registration for the first session will serve as registration for the subsequent sessions. The facilitators will share a Zoom link via email to all registered participants on the day of the workshop.

Registrants will receive a complimentary copy of the book. Books are available for pickup at the CAT reception desk (TECH Center, Suite 112). Once registered, please stop by to claim your copy.
