Can We Really Talk? Pt 1: Teaching About Racism Through the Lens of Media (Hosted online via Zoom) In-Person

Even after the verdict in such prominent cases like the murder of George Floyd, the prevalence of race and how it is covered in the media remains one of the most important issues of the day. This session will explore how to acknowledge, teach and talk about racism with students (including our own understanding of this sensitive topic). Additionally, we will discuss how media influences the examples and perspectives students bring to class, and consider the challenges and benefits it presents when navigating such topics.

This workshop is co-sponsored with the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership (IDEAL).

Facilitator: David Brown, Diversity Advisor to the Office of the Dean and Assistant Professor of Instruction at Klein College
