Preparing your Community-Engaged Learning Proposal: Designing a Service-Based Learning Course In-Person

The university recently announced an initiative to promote the creation of courses that meaningfully engage the community as part of the learning process. One of the categories is Service-Based Learning, sometimes referred to as Community-Based Learning, which has been identified as a high-impact practice profoundly beneficial to promoting students’ critical thinking, interpersonal skills, civic and social responsibility, academic development and more. Participants in this workshop will learn more about effectively planning and implementing Service-Based Learning/Community-Based Learning courses in order to ensure that the work in the course mutually benefits students and the community partners, and that all parties have a voice in how this work will be planned and implemented purposefully. Join us to get started on your proposal!

Facilitators: Stephanie Fiore, Associate Vice Provost & Senior Director, CAT; Dana Dawson, Associate Director, CAT
