Glazed (Over) and Confused: Sparking Student Engagement in the Classroom In-Person
Staring at a sea of blank expressions in the classroom? You're not alone. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore evidence-based strategies for fostering meaningful student engagement in various classroom settings — from the largest lecture to the most intimate seminar. In this session, we'll move beyond basic participation metrics to discuss how to create an environment that genuinely motivates students to invest in their own learning journey. Through hands-on activities and collaborative discussion, you'll learn: Methods to transform passive listeners into active participants; strategies for building community and peer-to-peer engagement; tools and approaches for increasing student-student interaction in and out of the classroom; and ways to gauge authentic engagement beyond simply counting raised hands. Come with your unique experiences, wisdom and challenges to share. Leave with a toolkit of strategies for your next class session or course offering. All Temple instructors and staff are welcome!
