Managing AI in Asynchronous Online Courses In-Person

Managing student use of generative AI in asynchronous online courses presents unique challenges. This interactive workshop invites participants to share their experiences with and concerns about teaching asynchronously amidst the rise of generative AI while exploring actionable strategies to ensure students fully engage with course content, whether you are allowing or prohibiting the use of generative AI tools. Together, we will examine approaches to foster student authenticity and participation, such as building community and rapport, encouraging students to use their own voices, and providing frequent and responsive feedback. We will consider options such as incorporating multimedia-rich activities and assessments that go beyond traditional written submissions and redesigning assignments to connect students with personal experiences, local issues, current events, and course materials that generative AI cannot fully replicate or access. All Temple instructors and staff are welcome!
