Advanced Online Teaching Institute (February 3 - 28) In-Person
The AOTI is designed to support both moderately experienced and highly experienced online instructors in evaluating and improving their online course design using Universal Design for Learning principles. Participants will explore multimedia and generative AI, active learning techniques, alternative assessments, and inclusive and equitable teaching practices. You will engage in critical self-reflection and commit to continually improving teaching practices to meet students' evolving needs.
The course is recommended for intermediate to advanced levels, and while there is no prerequisite, it is recommended that participants take the OTI first. The AOTI consists of twenty hours of instruction over four weeks, with an expected time commitment of about 5 hours per week. The course is asynchronous and does not require live meetings. All Temple instructors and staff are welcome.
Upon successful completion of the AOTI, you will be able to:
- Evaluate an existing online course and implement improvements.
- Facilitate an inclusive online learning environment using Universal Design for Learning principles.
- Create multimedia course content that engages students and enhances their learning.
- Explore active learning activities, including collaborative learning strategies beyond discussion.
- Decide on whether and how to use generative AI in your teaching and in your students' learning.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of traditional assessments for meeting learning goals and explore evidence-based alternatives.
Facilitators: Elizabeth White Vidarte, Online Learning Specialist, CAT; Julie Beth Kessler, Faculty Fellow, CAT
