SUMMARY:Writing a Syllabus for Inclusion and Engagement (Hosted in person)
DESCRIPTION:We can’t expect students to engage with a syllabus that
doesn’t engage with them. Students don’t read the syllabus because all
too often we write the syllabus as if it was about ourselves\, our rules\,
and our misadventures with previous students. This workshop will equip you
with the skills and insights necessary to create syllabi that foster an
inclusive and engaging learning environment. Participants will explore
strategies for integrating diverse perspectives\, promoting equity\, and
designing activities that actively engage all students. The workshop will
cover essential components such as accessible language\, culturally
responsive teaching practices\, and the incorporation of universal design
principles. Through collaborative discussions and hands-on activities\,
attendees will leave with a concrete plan to develop a syllabus that not
only outlines course content but also reflects a commitment to inclusivity
 and student engagement.\n\nFacilitator: Jeff Rients\, Associate Director\,
