Book Group: A Perfect Mess by David Labaree (Hosted Online via Zoom) In-Person

A Perfect Mess: The Unlikely Ascendancy of American Higher Education (2017, U of Chicago P)

The history of higher education and the role of teaching within it is messy -- and the past year made it even messier. If you’ve ever wondered about the evolution of teaching and the professoriate in American higher education, join your colleagues in reading A Perfect Mess. Author David Labaree explores the origins and development of the American university system and traces competing claims about its value over time. We’ll explore where teaching belongs (or should belong!) in this ongoing story and how that story impacts our classes.

This book group is held over three sessions:

  • Tuesday, April 6th, 3:00 - 4:30
  • Tuesday, April 13th, 3:00 - 4:30
  • Tuesday, April 20th, 3:00 - 4:30

Registration for the first session will serve as registration for the subsequent sessions. Participants will have access to the online version of this book through Temple Libraries. No hard copies will be distributed.

The facilitator will send an access link to this webinar via email prior to the session.
