Active Learning in Large Classrooms In-Person

Active learning is a broad term used to describe a number of strategies that engage students more deeply in course material.  In this workshop, we'll watch active learning taking place in large lecture halls to see how it can be done and why it often leads to greater retention and transfer of knowledge.  You'll get to "try on" a variety of active learning strategies using both high-tech and low-tech approaches to determine the ones that best align with your course goals.  You'll also learn why students are sometimes resistant to active learning and have the opportunity to practice the messaging to overcome that resistance.  Be sure to bring at least one course syllabus.
