Light Reading Group: "Oral Exams for a Generative AI World" In-Person

The academic integrity challenges posed by AI have renewed interest in oral exams, but what would make oral exams a good fit for our courses? Join colleagues for a one-time, 60-minute discussion on Catherine Hartmann’s “Oral Exams for a Generative AI World: Managing Concerns and Logistics for Undergraduate Humanities Instruction,” published last year in College Teaching. We’ll consider the possibilities and concerns raised by her experience using oral exams in an undergraduate humanities course, including student anxiety, fairness, and faculty workload. What does this account help us understand, and what questions remain? Faculty from all disciplines are welcome. Assigned reading is limited to Hartmann’s article.
