Building an Anti-Ableist Learning Community in your Classroom In-Person

What does ableism look like in a classroom, and why does it often go unnoticed? Ableism — discrimination or bias against people with disabilities — is deeply embedded in academic traditions, so much so that it's rarely challenged or even seen. This workshop invites faculty to examine how these dynamics show up in our own classrooms, reflect on their impact on students, and develop anti-ableist approaches suited to our teaching contexts. Participants will leave with practical strategies, developed together with colleagues, for identifying and addressing ableism in their own courses. All Temple instructors and staff are welcome!

Facilitators: Dani O'Brien, Accessible Pedagogy Specialist, CAT; Elizabeth White Vidarte, Online Learning Specialist, CAT
