Book Group: How Humans Learn by Joshua Eyler In-Person
In his popular book How Humans Learn: The Science and Stories Behind Effective College Teaching, Joshua Eyler argues that effective teaching starts with understanding five fundamental aspects of how we're wired to learn: curiosity, sociality, emotion, authenticity, and failure. Drawing on evolutionary biology and cognitive science, Eyler shows how faculty can leverage these innate human capacities to more successfully engage students and to improve learning and retention. During our three meetings, we'll consider the scientific foundations behind Eyler's five pillars of effective learning how these principles translate into concrete instructional strategies. All Temple instructors and staff are welcome.
