SUMMARY:When Students Won't Talk: Successful Synchronous Discussions
DESCRIPTION:From STEM fields to the visual arts\, every discipline benefits
from discussion-based learning. But what do we do if students don't talk?
This workshop invites you to consider ways to set your discussion up for
success in advance. We’ll investigate the kinds of teacher-discourse
moves that best generate critical thinking and student learning\; evaluate
teacher question types and student conversational roles for better student
discussions\; and reflect on how to grade and give feedback on
participation. Come prepared to share and learn from your friends and
colleagues! All Temple instructors and staff are welcome.\n\nFacilitator:
Elizabeth White Vidarte\, Online Learning Specialist\, CAT\n\nThe CAT will
email registered participants a Zoom access link to this webinar one hour
before the session.\n\nThis workshop is included in the Fundamentals of
Teaching in Higher Education CAT Micro-Credential requirements (Methods
category). Learn how to earn a CAT Micro-Credential.
