Creating Trauma-Conscious Learning Spaces, Session 1: Introduction to Trauma and Trauma Informed Teaching Principles In-Person

We and our students are experiencing a time of powerful social transformation amidst a global health crisis. The physical, social, and emotional toll that we all may be experiencing brings into focus the need for an awareness of trauma’s impact on learning. Join us for a special three-part workshop series examining how collective trauma can affect our students and how to cultivate spaces for learning that support student resilience and success. No matter your discipline, this workshop series is essential for developing a better understanding of how to teach responsively in these fraught times.

Session 1 Title: Introduction to Trauma and Trauma-Informed Teaching Principles

Facilitators: Amy Lynch (Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Public Health); Jessica Reinhardt (Psychological Studies in Education, College of Education)

Feeling tired, confused, and worried about COVID-19, racial unrest, and all of the other issues surrounding us these days? So are your students. The research on learning demonstrates that these affective factors play a crucial role in how well our students can engage in our classrooms, feel connected, and learn. Please join us as we explore trauma-informed principles for teaching in light of historical and current events which influence your students’ (and your) experience. We will provide a brief overview of trauma and discuss practical trauma-informed strategies you can infuse into your educational environment to support student learning.

The facilitator will send an access link to this webinar via email prior to the session.
