In sessions 1 and 2, we will discuss the different ways we can build authentic, significant learning into our courses by re-conceiving students as public intellectuals and by designing projects and assignments that connect their work in class to the world around them. We'll explore the power of social media publication platforms to promote powerful written communication skills, the role of digital literacy in an increasingly information-flooded world, and the impact course design can have on students' understanding of their role in civil discourse. Come ready to share and revise current assignments and projects or to learn about new collaborative tools, media and mechanisms for fostering students' intellectual identities. In lieu of a third session, you will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the workshop facilitator.
